Happy National Noodle Ring Day – Monday, December 11

Happy Monday!  One week left until Christmas break!  I can’t believe it!  I hope you have exciting plans for the holiday season, especially now that you have an extra week 🙂

In the classroom this week…

Bible – This week, we are watching the beautiful video “The Nativity Story”.  Also, the kids are making cookies for the teachers… but SHHHH… it will be a surprise.  In addition to that, we are wrapping some DVDs that the church has and will pass them out at The Carriage Inn retirement home, on Friday.   This is not a required fieldtrip, so please make sure to fill out the permission slip going home today.

Math – This week, we continue to work on Division with Decimals.  All groups will finish decimals this week.  After the test, students will take a mid-year math assessment.  This will help see that growth each student has had.

Reading –  This week, students will be reading their PR books.  Remember, two PR books and book reports are due by Friday.

Language Arts – Due to the craziness of last week, we didn’t get our LA done.  So, this week, we will finish our unit on Verbs.  We will learn about Verb tenses, review, then take our test.

Science – Due to practice, we weren’t able to get Science done last week.  This week, we are still reading Ch.11.  We will learn how to measure matter and learn what physical changes are.

Social Studies –  We finish learning about Ancient Egypt and Nubia this week.  Our project is due on Thursday.   Ch.3 Egypt and Nubia project

Spelling – No spelling this week.

In regards to RenWeb… You are able to check Renweb for assignments for the week.  Check the Bible tab for lesson plans, the Anthes Mail for the week, and any other list or memory verse.  Also, VERY important – check your email every Sunday for updated grades.  If you have any questions regarding those emails, please let me know.  This will help you stay on top of any missing or low-grade assignments.

Updated grades/ assignments – Everything was updated yesterday.  I will go in this afternoon and update with PR books.  Students recieved a missing assignment list this morning.  All assignments are due by Friday.  Any assignment that is not turned in will be given a zero.

Impact Day – Our class needs to bring in items to help with Impact Day this Thursday, December 14.  Each student needs to bring 8 toothbrush & toothpaste travel sets.  Feel free to buy these items at the 99cent store or the Dollar Tree.  If you are not interested in shopping, please bring in $10.  All items need to be brought to the school by or before Wednesday, December 14.

Christmas Party – We will have a classroom Christmas party on Thursday, December 14 and Friday, December 15.  .  Since money is tight, students are asked to buy a gift that is no more than $2.00, after tax.  I encouraged the students to be creative, rather than just buying a $1 gift, they could bake cookies, cupcakes, or a cake with a $1 mix.  They could buy something for one dollar and make it better.  Also, for the Christmas party, please bring your favorite snacks to share with the class.  It can be a bag of chips.  It can be sliced apples.  It can be candy.  It can be anything.  Please bring that on Thursday, December 14.

I am truly blessed to have you in my classroom family.  Thank you for all your prayers and support. You are all very special to me!!!

Happy National Cookie, Sock, and Kitten Day – Monday, December 4

Happy Monday!  I hope you had a fabulous weekend!  I can’t wait for this heat wave to be over… then it would actually feel like Christmas-time.  Can you believe we have two weeks until the end of 1st semester?  Crazy?!!! This year has gone by so fast!

In the classroom this week…

Bible – This week, we are learning about how God’s power creates miracles.  We will read a mission story about a sad time in Rwanda, but how God used the awfulness of the situation to create a miracle.  And just so you know, I am super proud of these kiddos.  They all made 100% on their memory verses last week!  In regards to our school and community service, the students voted today.  For our school service, the kids voted to make cookies for the teachers… but SHHHH… it will be a surprise that we will make for them next week.  For our community service project, we are going to wrap some DVDs that the church has and pass them out at The Carriage House retirement home.  I would like to take the kiddos after school on Friday, December 15. I know that schedules might be tight, so if you are not able to come, or your child can’t come, then just let me know.  I would love to have some parents come and help us pass out our special gifts 🙂  I will send a permission slip home at the end of the week.

Math – This week, we continue to work on Division with Decimals.  Group 1 is correcting their whole number and decimal division today, but moving on to decimal and decimal division tomorrow and the rest of the week.   Group 2 is working on decimal and decimal division, then will be moving on towards word problems and conversion of decimals.  And Group 3 is currently working on word problems, then will move to conversion, then review for their test. The last two lessons before we finish decimals will be dealing with percents and fractions, then we will take our final Decimal test.

Reading – We finished our PR book today.  Our project is creating and Illuminated Letters Manuscript to show how important documents were written during Martin Luther’s time.  For the rest of the week, and next week, students will be allowed to read their PR books to get caught up.  Remember, two PR books are due for this quarter.

Language Arts – We will be learning about Verb tenses this week, then reviewing for our test.  Our final verb test will be on Thursday, December 7.

Science – Depending on our practice schedule for the Christmas program, will determine what all we get done in Science this week.  Practice is at the end of the day.  I have planned for us to learn about how to measure matter and learn what physical changes are.

Social Studies –  Depending on our practice schedule for the Christmas program, will determine what all we get done in Social Studies this week.  Practice is at the end of the day.  I have planned for us to continue to learn about Ancient Egypt and Nubia.  There is a project over this chapter.  Students will have a choice in which project they want to complete.  It will be due on Thursday, December 14.

Updated grades/ assignments – I have not yet updated grades online.  I will be doing that tomorrow.  I did, however, have the kids make a list of their missing assignments this morning.  Students that don’t have any missing assignments will get tickets and a little something from me for being in homework club for last week.

Popcorn Palace Fundraiser – Orders should come by the end of this week. 🙂

Christmas Program – Our school Christmas program is this Saturday, December 9, at 6pm.  It will be from 6-7pm. Please arrive at 5:30pm so the program can begin on time. This is a school program and students need to attend the performance.  There will be a participation grade given for Bible.  Clothing will be church clothes in Christmas colors: red, green, black, white, cranberry, silver, gold, etc.  There is an Enchilada fundraiser dinner afterwords for those that would like to stay.  The Enchilada dinner is $5 a plate and helps to raise money for Worthy Student.

Impact Day – Our class needs to bring in items to help with Impact Day on Thursday, December 14.

We drew names today. For example, I had a student that bought a mug at the dollar tree and then sharpie painted it and baked it to make a beautiful personal gift.  It truly is the time, effort, and thought that goes into the gift that counts.

Thank you so much for all that you do!  I know life is tough sometimes, and super busy, but the sacrifices all of you make are definitely felt.  Thank you so much for the amazing parents you are!
