Happy Love Your Pet Day – Tuesday, February 21

Happy Tuesday!  I hope each of you were able to enjoy a bit of the long weekend.  I started my spring cleaning early over the weekend.  I got quite a few projects done, and did end up being able to relax a bit too.  It was wonderful to have the long weekend.  And, Spring Break is right around the corner.

In the classroom this week…

Bible – Pastor Seek has invited our class and the 4th grade to do a church service for the Sabbath of March 17.  We have been asked to put together everything except for the sermon.  What a privilege we have been given!  Today, we talked about who might be interested in what.  We are missing a few people, so we can’t 100% confirm anything, but please make your plans to be here.  Students will be getting Bible credit for their participation.  With it being a few weeks away, hopefully this will give you time to make arrangements to be here.  For this week, we have a memory verse test on Friday.  It will be fill-in-the-blanks.  Ephesians 4;29,31-32  Also, remember that the Kindness Project is due on Thursday, March 1.   https://www.coffeecupsandcrayons.com/100-acts-kindness-kids/

Math – Groups 1 and Group 2 are learning about Improper Fractions, how to Compare/Order Fractions, Adding/Subtracting Fractions, and Adding/Subtracting Mixed Numbers.   Group 3  is learning how to Divide Fractions and how to use Fractions in Word Problems, then they will be taking their exit exam for Fractions.

Reading –   This week will be the last week for PR books.  Remember, we need 2 for each quarter.  Both books need to be read and book reports turned in by or before Friday, March 2.  Next week, we will begin our next Pathways book for 4th quarter.

Language Arts – How-To Presentations were today for those that were here.  Tomorrow, we begin our next grammar study, Adjectives and Adverbs.  After we learn about both, we will have a test.  After the test, the next project will be “All about Me” poetry.  More details in the coming weeks.  Also, alongside Language Arts class, we will continue the process of Genius Hour.  Students have chosen what they want to research and will begin the process this week.  The end results will be a presentation, a research paper, and if time allows, a compare & contrast paper.

Science – This week, in Ch.13, we begin learning about electricity.  Due to having Monday off, we will only have one class for Science.  We will be learning about Static Electricity.  We will learn how Static Electricity works and how it can be used in everyday life in pretty cool ways.

Social Studies –  Ch.6 Test corrections are being sent home today.  All the answers that were incorrect need a corrected answer in pen with a page number of where it is found, then 1/2 points will be given back.  If the answer is changed, but no page numbers are written, then no points will be given back.  Don’t forget page numbers!  Also, this week, we begin learning about Rome in Ch.7.  On Thursday, we will discuss the project over this chapter.  Students will be given a chance to create their own model of a Roman Arch, Roman Aqueduct, or a Roman Villa.  More details on Thursday.

Spelling – No Spelling this week.  Students are studying the Spelling Bee lists that were sent home last week.  Tomorrow will be the classroom Spelling Bee for eliminations and Friday will be the school Spelling Bee.

Outdoor School – Outdoor School is scheduled for Sunday, April 22 – Thursday, April 26.  This is a conference planned and supported trip.  It is required through the conference.  Next week, I will send home paperwork regarding the trip.  Currently, the price is $175 per student.  This will need to be paid to the school by or before Friday, April 13.  This is also the fee for any adults that choose to come along.  If you may be planning to come, you need to let me know ASAP.  I have to let the conference know.

Fundraisers for Outdoor School – There are few things that are happening.  Tomorrow is Dress Down Day sponsored by our class.  Any money raised will go to our class funds.  As of this week, our class is helping take care of the pizza stuff on Friday.  The money left over from the purchase of the pizza is ours.  Also, I am in the process of arranging a Jason’s Deli fundraiser night for Thursday, March 22 from 5-10pm.  During that evening, a certain percent of our sales will be given back to us.  And finally, after those fundraisers, we may end up having to do a bake sale or root beer float sale.  More details about the last two next week.  But, just so you know, the purpose of these fundraisers is to lower the amount of money that each family has to pay for Outdoor School.

Impact Day – A very special thank you to the kiddos and parents, Ivonne and Shannon, for a great few hours working at the Wolf Sanctuary.  They were very appreciative and look forward to us coming back again.  Also, thank you to the parents who were patient and waited on the return of their kiddos.  I appreciate you all!

Parent Meetings – I apologize for last week.  My focus was entirely on the Impact Day.  I will most definitely be in contact with each of you to schedule a mid-year meeting about your kiddo.  I would like to talk with you regarding your child’s progress up to this point and any plans that may need to be made in the coming months.  I look forward to talking with each of you very soon!

Progress Reports/ End of Quarter – Progress reports went home last week.  Attached to them was a list of missing work that still affects the grade of each student.  All missing work will be due by Wednesday of next week, February 28.  Any assignments that are not turned in by that date will be given a zero.  The only exception would be the PR books.  They are not due until Friday, March 2.

Red sheets/ Missing Assignment list – I am fazing out Red Missing Assignment sheets.  I have been printing out, every Monday, a list of missing work.  Each student has received them weekly, and will continue to do so until the end of the year.

Thank you so much for all that you do!  I appreciate the texts, phone calls, and emails.  Each of your kiddos are a blessing to me and I couldn’t have asked for a better blessing of a group!
